Milton Keynes Lightning have signed former Belfast Giants and Fife Flyers blue liner Matt Nickerson ahead of their inaugural Elite League campaign.
During his ten year pro career, Nickerson has also played in the Finnish Liiga and Mestis leagues, the AHL, ECHL, and Allsvenskan, originally moving to the UK in 2013 when he joined Fife where he quickly became a fans favourite.
In his fours years in the Elite League, the tough defenceman has registered nine goals and 49 points in 172 games.
“I’m delighted to have added Matt to our line up for the coming season.” Lightning head coach Pete Russell said.
“When I knew he was available we did all we could to make it happen. He is a great addition to our organisation – to add a person with such experience and character was a no-brainer.
“Matt is the full package. He skates well for such a big man, is solid in his own end, plays hard in tough areas, makes a good first pass, picks good spots to join the rush and of course he takes care of his team mates when required.
“He is a huge character both on and off the ice – a great team-mate and will be 100 per cent a fans’ favourite.”
