Guildford Flames have signed former Swedish Under 20 international David Lillieström Karlsson from Division 1 side Östersunds IK.
Lillieström Karlsson scored 14 goals and 44 points in 36 games for Östersunds last season, finishing first in scoring in the Northern section of the league, and played in both the SHL and Allsvenskan with former club AIK.
“I’m very excited to join the club and move to Guildford,” said Lillieström Karlsson. “I’ve only heard great things about the club and the town. I am eager to get the season going and be a part of the club’s journey in the top league.”
Lillieström Karlsson also represented Sweden at under 17, under 18 and under 20 level, winning a silver medal at the 2011 IIHF Under 18 World Junior Championships along side NHL stars Filip Forsberg and Jonas Brodin.
“David appears to be a very skilled player,” Flames head coach Paul Dixon said.
“We are told he has good speed and good awareness. We have previously had good offensive players before from Swedish Division 1, and David goes well beyond the production that we had seen from any of those players.
“At 24 years old, we expect that he is just coming into his own and likely still progressing his development. In that respect he is a very exciting signing for the club.
“Sweden are usually #1 or #2 in the world ice hockey rankings, recently collecting the World Championship title, and they produce a great depth of high quality players. We are thrilled to have David join us for our move into the top division.”
