Cardiff Devils have signed 29-year-old Canadian defenceman Drew Paris.
Paris split last season between MODO Hockey in the Allsvenskan and EBEL side Dornbirner EC, with the Quebec native also playing in AHL, ECHL and DEL during his nine year pro career. In 2007/08 he led all QMJHL defenceman in goals (22).
“You always wonder how well big guys like Drew can skate, but he is a great skater and very mobile,” Devils coach Andrew Lord said, “you don’t play in Sweden and Germany without being mobile.”
“He is a big strong guy that is going to win battles in the corners and in front of the net – and that shot, wow!”
Paris will join Gleason Fournier, club stalwart Mark Richardson and new signing Craig Moore on the Devils blue line this season, as the Welsh club look to build on last year’s title success.
