SHEFFIELD STEELERS 4 FIFE FLYERS 3 (OT)
Sheffield picked up their second victory in a row, but needed overtime to beat the visiting Fife Flyers on Wednesday night.
After a goalless first period, Mark Matheson gave Sheffield the lead 75 seconds into the middle frame but the visitors struck back to score twice in just under six minutes, Ricards Burzins bagging the equaliser before Chase Schaber put Fife ahead with a power play goal shortly before the second intermission.
Matheson found the net again just under five minutes into the third period, scoring with the man advantage to equalise for Sheffield, but Fife continued to press and were rewarded in the 53rd minute when summer signing Rick Pinkston beat Steelers netminder Jackson Whistle.
The Flyers’ lead lasted just 69 seconds however, Josh Pitt continuing his great start to the season with tying goal.
With neither side able to settle things in regulation, the game moved to over time where Jordan Owens grabbed the pivotal goal to claim victory for the Steelers just 28 seconds into the extra frame.
