Cardiff Devils coach Andrew Lord has called on his team to be consistent when they start their domestic campaign this weekend.
The Elite League champions host Nottingham Panthers in Saturday’s league opener before taking on Milton Keynes Lightning in a Challenge Cup tie, which will be shown live on FreeSports.
And the Devils coach reckons his team’s game is much better than it was a few weeks ago when they played the Panthers in pre-season.
“Every night you have to bring that consistency and we need 60 minutes in both games,” Lord told IceTime TV.
“You can’t take a night off, compared to three or four years, where you could maybe have the luxury of a night or two off. Not any more though.
“But after our games in the CHL, we have to keep going, pushing the pace and I think our game is much better than it was a few weeks ago.
“The systems have been installed into the new guys and the players that stayed are familiar with it again so we’re looking for line chemistry again.
“Due to injuries, we had to juggle and adapt a different style of play, but we have to start getting that down more.
“I hope we can stick with Nottingham in this game coming up. We’d better. We saw them in pre-season and they were fast, physical and play with a lot of pride.
“Their coach has them all on the same page. While we’ve seen them once , we’ll be ready for them and I think it’ll be a great game.”
Cardiff vs MK Lightning on Sunday is live on FreeSports from 5.30pm, with Aaron Murphy, Paul Adey and Chris Ellis.
