BELFAST GIANTS 4 DUNDEE STARS 1
Belfast Giants kept up their unbeaten start to their Challenge Cup defence with a comfortable 4-1 home win.
Adam Keefe’s side were ahead inside the opening couple of minutes when Colin Shields forced the puck in after Dundee goalie Craig Holland couldn’t stop a Paul Swindlehurst effort.
The Giants had doubled their lead towards the end of the opening period as Jim Vandermeer’s shot from the right took a deflection and ended up in the net for a powerplay goal.
Then the home side added a third before the buzzer 40 seconds later as Dustin Johner fired over Holland shorthanded and the lead looked good.
Kendall McFaull hit the bar with a chance in the second, but Dundee were able to get one back as François Bouchard fired low past Giants goalie Stephen Murphy to shorten the gap.
Former Dundee man Paul Swindlehurst reopened the three-goal lead for Belfast with a finish five minutes into the third period that proved enough to claim another two Challenge Cup points for the Giants.
