BELFAST GIANTS 3 GUILDFORD FLAMES 2
Belfast Giants extended their winning run as they held off Guildford Flames in a five-goal thriller, edging the contest 3-2.
With both teams having enjoyed unbeaten weekends, something had to give as the SSE Arena played host to this televised affair.
After hitting the post early in the game, it was the Giants who took the lead when a shot from Curtis Leonard flew into the net after almost 12 minutes.
Guildford had to do without Jordan Abt in the latter stages of the opening session as he sat for holding.
But it has no bearing as the Flames equalised when Kruise Reddick managed to slip his shot under Tyler Beskorowany in the Belfast goal to level things up.
The two teams had chances throughout the second period to edge the contest, but it was the home side who got that advantage, with a slice of luck to help them.
Patrick Dwyer, from just behind the net, played the puck back out, but it bounced off the unaware Travis Fullerton and landed behind him in Guildford’s goal.
Jonathan Ferland added a third early in the final period, sweeping home from close range as Giants put some daylight between them.
Guildford reduced the arrears to one with seven minutes to go when Jamie Crooks tucked away from close range to set up a nervy end to the game.
But Adam Keefe’s men held on for victory as their good run of form continued.
