Strong night for Flames in front of cameras

Cardiff Devils move into a three-way tie for second with a home win, while Coventry Blaze and Guildford Flames’ live FreeSports game saw the visitors take a convincing win.

Coventry Blaze 2-6 Guildford Flames

It wasn’t the best night in front of the cameras for the Coventry Blaze as they suffered a four-goal home loss to the Guildford Flames, the visitors going fifth in the table with the win.

Only 5:21 was on the clock when Calle Ackered put the Flames into a lead they’d hold into the first period break. Jake Hansen tied the game for the Blaze just nine seconds before the halfway mark, but a couple of quick goals hat the Flames ahead – TJ Foster and Ackered again netting 1:25 apart to give the Flames a 3-1 lead.

Eric Lindhagen’s goal 35 seconds into the final period made the game all-but safe, and he added his side’s sixth with just over six minutes left in the game. A late Kelin Ainsworth powerplay goal for the hosts brought the score back to 6-2.

Cardiff Devils 3-2 Fife Flyers

The Devils got revenge on Fife for their home defeat a fortnight ago by beating the Flyers by the odd goal in five.

The home side, who registered back-to-back wins last weekend, were in control by the end of the first period as Charles Linglet opened the scoring at 12:47, followed by Matt Pope doubling that lead with 16:15 gone.

The sides cancelled each other out in the middle period, trading just a penalty each, but when Linglet added another with 45:49 on the board the game looked to be over. The Flyers however had other ideas, and the fightback started – Mike Cazzola on the powerplay getting Fife on the board with 6:54 to go. Then when Joe Basaraba struck with only 1:44 left, shorthanded, the Flyers were suddenly back to within one – however they were to run out of time as the Devils help on for a 3-2 win.
