Dundee Stars young forward Jordan Cownie is Week 12’s Player of the Week!
The 23-year-old scored for the Stars in both of their wins over the weekend as the team ended a run of five straight losses and got their first regulation win since September.
“Obviously is was great weekend for us. It’s no secret we haven’t been getting many bounces recently, but we’ve been working really hard,” said the young forward of last weekend. “Coach Pacha has been drilling us into sticking with everything, to keep bringing our game every night, and so it was nice to get four points and over our biggest rivals, Fife, too.”
“The first goal at home was kind of the way I get most of my goals, being around the net, getting the dirty ones and banging them in” he continued. “The second was a bit nicer. It was nice to get rewarded again, the whole team was on a bit of a drought so to be able to get a couple of goals and contribute to two wins felt really good.”
“Over the last weeks Coach Pacha has been more or less saying stick with it and believe in the group we have,” explained Cownie about the mood in the Stars’ camp of late. “We’d come so close so many times to winning games, being robbed late on, and guys get low on confidence. But the vibe has stayed really positive, and that’s a credit to the leaders in our room and the coach to keeping everyone positive. We knew how important this weekend for us, and that we only needed one weekend to change things around.”
Cownie is in his second full season in the Elite League and with the Stars. How’s he finding his hockey there? “I’m really enjoying hockey at the moment, it’s been great for me. Obviously I had a decent year last season finding my feet in the league, and I feel like I’m playing a good centreman role and helping push the team forward.”
