Coventry Blaze have re-signed the services of Czech netminder Miroslav Kopriva, on the same day that two players left the team.
The 34-year-old comes back to the Blaze to replace Miika Wickman, who was released earlier in the day. Forward Kelin Ainsworth was also released to pursue an opportunity in Denmark with defending champions Aalborg Pirates.
“Getting ‘Miro’ back is vital to help us get through a rough patch. We know what he brings and he knows better what to expect second time around. He will get on the ice a couple times in preparation for a big weekend for us,” said Head Coach Danny Stewart. “We would like to thank ‘Wiiks’ (Miika Wiikman) for his time here. He battled through an injury early on, and when he came back was put in a tough spot. He’s a great professional and we wish him the best.”
Today Cardiff Devils also announced that Justin Faryna has left the team. “This came as a big shock to us. Faryna has been a big part of our team since he arrived ahead of the 2017-18 season. He played a massive role in our success last season and was hugely popular with our fanbase,” said Managing Director Todd Kelman. “I know they will be saddened to see him go, as we all are, but there is life outside of hockey and this is a decision bigger than this game. On behalf of the entire organisation, I would like to thank Justin for his contribution to the Devils and wish him well for wherever life takes him.”
