Nottingham Panthers put themselves in a great position to make the Challenge Cup Semi-Finals with an emphatic 6-1 win in Manchester in the first leg of their Quarter-Final tie.
It took just under eight minutes for the first goal to come through Dane Byers, giving the Storm the early lead. But that was about as good as it got for the home side who surrendered their lead to Alex Guptill with just under four minutes left in the opening period.
New-signing Dylan Richard then put the Panthers ahead midway through the middle session, but by the end of the period the visitors had raced into a 4-1 lead thanks to goals from Mark Hurtubise and Robert Lachowicz.
Guptill added his second of the night at 47:51 to make it five for the Panthers, while Hurtubise also doubled his own tally with 9:03 remaining to give the Panthers a five-goal win.
The return leg takes place on 11 December.
