Dundee Stars 5-4 Fife Flyers
A nine-goal thriller in Dundee for part one of the Stars-Flyers derby saw the home side take a one-goal win to keep themselves in the playoff places. It took under five minutes for the deadlock to be broken, Matt Marquardt on target to put the Stars in the lead with 4:10 gone.
After a one-goal opening period, the middle session was a scoring fest as the sides combined to run in eight goals. While Marcus Basara got Fife level just 56 seconds into the period, by 4:52 of the second Marquardt and Brian Hart had both netted to put the Stars 3-1 ahead. Chad Smith brought it back to 3-2 at 27:06, before one each from Lukas Lundvald and Joe Basaraba 35 seconds apart took the score to 4-3. Hart struck again to put the Flyers two ahead, but with 4:15 left in the period Barasa found the net to bring things back to 5-4.
Strangely that was where the scoring then ended. Despite a tight final period, and Fife pulling the goalie for the final 90 seconds of the game, no more goals were to come and the Stars held on for the 5-4 win.
