Coventry Blaze were one of three teams to take a four-point weekend in Week 18, and Swedish forward Thom Flodqvist was instrumental in helping them get there. He is our Player of the Week!
“It’s always nice to score some goals, I was struggling a bit in the first games with that so it’s good to get that going too,” said the 28-year-old. “But the most important is that we won these two games and we are climbing up in the standings.”
The Blaze won in Milton Keynes on Saturday night 6-2, and then produced a sensational comeback to force overtime and then a shootout in their home game against Glasgow. Said the Södertälje born and raised forward of the latter “We had a great mood in the locker room after the game and that big comeback. We didn’t play our best hockey over 60 minutes, but somehow we managed to get back in the game and finally win on penalty shots. We didn’t do anything special I think, except for not giving up even though we were three goals down with less than three minutes to go.”
He continued: “Overall it was four very important points for us in the standing, getting us up into the playoff spots. We will try to build on this going into the next weekend matches.”
Flodqvist joined the Blaze early last month, and is enjoying his time in Coventry. “I have settled in well here in Coventry, the guys on the team are great so I like it here,” he explained. “The ice hockey here is a bit more back and forth than what I came from back in Sweden, and a bit more physical sometimes. But I enjoy playing here in the UK.”
