Belfast Giants 4-2 GKS Katowice
It’s set up for a fantastic Sunday evening in Belfast as the Giants beat Katowice in a tight game to play for the Continental Cup trophy tomorrow.
Darcy Murphy gave the Giants the lead last in the first period as Darcy Murphy tipped a Leonard Curtis shot for 1-0 at 17:07. However Katowice were level only 14 seconds into the next period, as Jesse Rohtla snuck a shot through Beskorowany’s five hole to tie things up.
Murphy struck again on a loose puck to put the Giants 2-1 ahead, but a goal with nine seconds left in the period from Janne Laakkonen meant the sides were level at the 40 minute break.
At the start of the final period however the Giants got an early goal, only 15 seconds on the clock in fact, when Curtis Leonard finished with a smart wrist shot to put the Giants back ahead. Katowice lost their discipline towards the end of the game, and Dustin Johner tipped a Josh Road shot on a 5-3on-3 advantage to make the win safe with 68 seconds left to play. The win means whoever wins between the Giants and Arlan of Kazakhstan tomorrow will win the tournament!
