Coventry Blaze 2-4 Sheffield Steelers
A good weekend for the Steelers was completed in Coventry on Sunday night, beating the Blaze by two on the road.
An excellent opening period from the visitors saw them two ahead after 20 minutes – Tanner Eberle at 3:49 and Eric Neiley at 18:56 providing the goals for the Steelers’ lead. When Neiley found the net again, this time at 37:42 on the powerplay, the Blaze had an uphill task in the final period.
With just over nine minutes to go, the Blaze got themselves on the board and in the game thanks to Alex Nikiforuk. Then with 3:11 to play, he fired in again to suddenly bring the Blaze back to within one. The home side’s hopes of snatching a point were dashed however at 57:58, Jonas Westerling finding the empty net to round off a useful road win for the Steelers in the playoff race.
