Coventry Blaze have revealed today the addition of defenseman Justin Hamonic, arriving from Ducs d’Angers in France’s Ligue Magnus.
A 25-year-old stay-at-home defenseman, Hamonic is 6’4 and ended the last season with 10 points in 47 games. Prior to his arrival in Europe, he played 161 ECHL games (two goals + 17 assists), 11 in the AHL, and 255 in the WHL (3+43). Hamonic captained the Tri-City Americans in his final two seasons, and was voted the team’s MVP.
Head Coach Danny Stewart said of his latest recruit: “Justin instantly makes us better defensively. He’s a big body, very strong and in tremendous shape. He’s a solid defenseman, but what I like is that he can also skate and move the puck well. He’s got a very good hockey IQ and will complement our current guys on the back very well.”
Hamonic himself added: “Coventry presented a great opportunity for me to be a part of a first-class organisation. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the team, organisation, and fans. On the ice I bring a hard to play against, defence first style. Playing in front of a full Skydome Arena is something that I’m going to look forward to all summer long!”
