After announcing the signing of Chris Pohlkamp, Coventry have now confirmed that his brother Matt will also be joining the Blaze for next season.
Winger Matt, 26 years old, also came through the Bowling Green State University program, and has spent the last two full seasons in the EIHL – 44 points in 70 games for Quad City Mallards, 27 in 51 for South Carolina Stingrays, and 8 in 14 for Reading Royals.
“When Matt expressed interest in joining the club we worked quickly and heard nothing but great things about him,” affirmed Head Coach Danny Stewart. “He’s another hard-working guy that plays heavy down low and has a good touch around the net. He has scored 40 plus goals the last two seasons in the ECHL and along with that brings other qualities. He can penalty-kill for us and is another guy with good size, but who also skates well.”
Matt himself said: “At the same time that my brother Chris signed, I was looking for a place to play in Europe. Once he had signed with Coventry it sparked my interested into looking to play in the UK, and the possibility of playing with him. I had a great conversation with coach Danny Stewart and loved everything he had to say about the Coventry Blaze organisation and the city. I signed, and I’m very excited to be beginning my 3rd year pro career in Coventry. I would describe my playing style as a full ice skilled power forward who likes to make plays, score goals, and do whatever it takes to help the team succeed.”
