Coventry Blaze today announced their starting netminder for the 2019/20 season: Jamie Phillips.
The 26-year-old Canadian spent last season in the ECHL, ending with a save percentage of 90.3% in 30 games for Florida Everblades, and 92.0% in 12 for Reading Royals. The previous year, he stopped 89.2% of shots in net for Jacksonville IceMen, while turning away 91.2% in 16 AHL games with Manitoba.
“We sure have been patient in finding the right fit for us, and we couldn’t be happier. Jamie is a fantastic goalie who has had success at every level he’s played,” said Blaze Head Coach Danny Stewart. “He’s a competitor and true professional who will give us a chance to win every night. He fits exactly what we wanted. A proven guy at this level who is still committed and hungry to win and progress in his career.
Phillips commented: “I’m excited to join Coventry. I spoke to a few current and former players and they all had great things to say about the club and the fan support. I can’t wait to get over in August and begin my career in Europe with the Blaze.:
