Matheson back for Panthers

The Nottingham Panthers confirmed their first import for the 201 Elite Series on Monday - the return of fan favourite Mark Matheson.

The 37-year-old scored nine goals and assisted on 35 others to put up 44 league points in 46 games for the Panthers in the curtailed 2019/20 season, where he was also 2+5 in 12 cup games. Before arriving in Nottingham, the defenseman spent two seasons in Sheffield putting up 49 and 31 points respectively.

He started this season with Transylvanian-based side Gyergyói HK of the Hungarian Erste Liga, but was cut after seven games following a coaching change and a disappointing start to the team's season.

Matheson led Elite League defenseman for points last season.
