Tanner Eberle's strike within the opening sixz minutes set the Steelers off en route to a comfortable victory over the Coventry Blaze on Wednesday night.
When Robert Dowd fired home a loose puck inside 12 minutes, the Steelers were in control early. Tristan Keck scored from close range with 39 seconds left in the first period to get the Blaze back into things.
Sondre Olden's goal 2:04 into period two re-established the Steelers' two-goal lead, only for a clever play by Nick Jermain from a tight angle to bring Coventry back to within one at 28:21. Vanya Antonov failed to convert on a 1-on-0 midway through the period, and the Blaze were left to wonder what might have been as Liam Kirk finished a nice Steelers' play with seven minutes remaining in the second to make it 4-2.
Eberle beat Owen again 2:41 into the final period to give the Steelers a three-goal cushion. He then completed his hat-trick at 54:58, with a Jason Hewitt goal inbetween, to round off a great night for the Steelers.
