The Coventry Blaze got their second win of the 2021 Elite Series over the Nottingham Panthers on Sunday afternoon.
As they did in the previous meeting between these teams, the Blaze got off to an excellent start and led after 20 minutes. Nicolai Bryhnisveen shot through traffic with 7:36 played to make full use of the man advantage, before a fine solo effort from Tristan Keck doubled Coventry's lead at 12:20 while playing a man short.
That was the way things stayed until 81 seconds from the end of the second period when Christophe Boivin slotted home to bring the Panthers back to within one.
A late accidental high-sticking penalty on Janne Laakkonen put the Panthers on a four-minute advantage over the end of the period to and the beginning of the third, but the Blaze's penalty kill was able to kill it off with thanks to Shane Owen when called upon.
A wonderful snipe from Simen Andre Edvardsen re-established the Blaze's two-goal lead with just over 11 minutes remaining, while Owen continued to come up big as he turned away 48 shots in the game.
