The Nottingham Panthers went joint third in the 2021 Elite Series standings on Monday night thanks to a one-goal win over the Manchester Storm.
Ollie Betteridge opened the scoring with an excellent individual goal, skating from his own blueline before slotting past Sean Bonar on the fall at 5:51. Nick Dineen made it 2-0 with a little over two minutes left in the opening period to put the Panthers in a comfortable position.
That lead got better 2:52 into period two through Kevin Domingue, however Jacob Lundell Noer's powerplay marker with 1:50 left in the frame got the Storm on the board.
Domingue's second of the night put the Panthers back three ahead at 43:06, but a nicely worked Storm goal at 48:23, finished by Cam Critchlow, brought Manchester back to within two again. Scott Simmonds then cut the deficit in half to set up an exciting final 7:15, but the Storm were unable to force an equaliser despite outshooting the Panthers 36-31.
