Guildford Flames have added to their netminding options with the signing of Wouter Peeters.
The 21-year-old was drafted in the third round in 2016 by Chicago, after coming through the Red Bull Junior Academy in Salzburg. Since then he's played in KHL outfit Jokerit's Junior A league team, and two seasons in the USHL. Guildford will be his first venture into senior hockey.
“We had always intended on signing a 3rd goaltender to our roster so that is nothing new,” said Head Coach Paul Dixon. “Wouter is a little different from our normal history in that he is a much younger, less experienced goaltender than we have normally had. He has only just come out of Junior hockey and is making the transition to men’s levels.”
He continued: “Wouter is a big framed goaltender, he is hungry to prove himself, and he has shown a some promise which is evidenced by his draft standing and also some of the opportunities he has had at this very early stage of his career. This could be a good spot for him to gain playing time without having to take on the whole load. Having the experience and track record of Travis, who has had a good start to the season, mixed with a young guy brimming with desire could prove to be a really good addition to the existing Fullerton/Mike Will mix.”
