Defenseman Daine Todd is the final addition to the 2021/22 Sheffield Steelers roster.
The 34-year-old Canadian was confirmed by the Steelers on Wednesday morning and completes Aaron Fox's squad-building for the new season. Todd sat out the COVID19-hit 2020-21 season, but prior to the pandemic had spent two seasons with Iserlohn in the DEL. Before arriving in Germany, he spent four years in Scandinavia with two seasons in the KHL with Finnish-based Jokerit, and a year each with Luleå and Örebro in the SHL.
Todd also played with new Steelers recruit Keaton Ellerby during his time in Germnay.
"Daine is a smooth-skating offensive defenseman who has run some really big numbers for a d-man at the AHL, KHL, SHL and DEL level," said Head Coach Fox. "He sees the ice extremely well and has a very high hockey IQ. Daine competes hard defensively, he excels on the PP but will be able to play in all situations.
"I believe that Daine’s skating is at the elite level which I think fits really well into our group. He spent some time paired with now fellow Steeler Keaton Ellerby as well which will be a nice option to have if needed.
"Overall, I think with the 6 guys we have at the back there is a really nice mix to our group, it also allows us to play Evan Mosey as a forward to start but if we have any injuries he can play that swing role."
