Reid double helps Devils to home win

Brodie Reid scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season to secure a four-point weekend for the Cardiff Devils with victory over the Fife Flyers.

The Devils, who had shut out Guildford 24 hours earlier, had the better of the opening period but only led by one after 20 minutes. A poor giveaway in neutral ice allowed Brodie Reid to take possession and then fire past Shane Owen to open the scoring with 6:10 played, and then doubled the lead as a nice passing play from Cole Sanford and Brodie Dupont set up Josh Waller for the back-post finish just as a penalty was expiring.

Just as it looked like the Devils may run away with things Greg Chase had other ideas with a fine individual goal, dekeing a defensman and then backhanding into the roof of the net.

Cardiff had the better of the middle period and on outshooting their opponents 22 to 4 were rewarded with two goals. A fine tic-tac-toe play from Ben Davies and Sam Duggan led to Josh Lammon scoring the Devils' third at 35:12 on the powerplay; and two minutes later Reid got his second of the game to make it 4-1 and make Fife's task all the more difficult going into the third period.

Cole Sanford scored the lone goal of period three at 51:23 to round off a good home win for the Devils, their first in the Premier Sports Elite League regular season in a game where they outshot the Flyers 50-16.
