The Fife Flyers recorded their first road win of the season, and second in a row, with a derby win in Dundee over the Stars.
Dundee had the better of the opening period and outshot their opponents 17-4 through the first 20 minutes. The Stars were guilty of missing a half-empty cage when confusion behind the Flyers net brought the puck out with Shane Owen stranged, and then had a golden chance to go ahead with a penalty shot on which Gabriel Desjardins hit the post.
The breakthrough did eventually, and deservedly, come when Sebastian Bengtsson cut in from the circle and wristed past Owen who was half screened. Fife ended the period on a powerplay but couldn't tie things up, and the Stars survived the remainder of the penalty which carried over into period two.
Fife responded in the second period though and began working Adam Morrison in the Stars' net. The equaliser came through Michael McNicholas at 29:03 with a close-range finish on the powerplay. A little over two minutes later, the Flyers had turned the game around on the rush with a nice pass from Carson Stadnyk setting up Jacob Benson for the finish at the top of the crease.
Now it was time for the Stars to really, and they gave the home crowd the response they wanted. Michael Poirier gloved the puck down nicely in his own zone, skated into the Flyers' end, and laid the puck off neatly for the on-rushing Charlie Combs to fire past Owen. All square at 35:41, the Stars regained the lead 62 seconds from the end of the period through Philippe Sanche on the powerplay to carry a one-goal lead into the third period.
Fife were back level with Jacob Benson's second of the game, tipping Eric Naslund's blueline show at 47:32. The visitors were presented with a great chance to take a late lead with a penalty on Poirier and obliged - Imants Lescovs shot from the blueline deflected in front and past Morrison with 2:30 left on the clock. Morrison was pulled with well over a minute to go but Owen continued to stand tall and backstopped his team to the win.
