The Sheffield Steelers have bolstered their lineup for this weekend's IIHF Continental Cup with the return to the club of Andreas Valdix.

Swedish forward Valdix played five games for Cardiff this season as Injured Reserve cover for Brandon McNally. He returns to the team for whom he scored 86 points from 2016-18.

"With the current injury situation, we felt it was important to try and bring in a couple of players on one-week tryouts to give us some much-needed depth for this weekend’s Continental Cup," explained Head Coach Aaron Fox. "The IIHF granted us one of those spots to help our roster through this period which we appreciated.

"Valdix was the player they have given us approval for and obviously is a player that isn’t a stranger to Sheffield. I know he had some very good seasons here and It will be nice for me to have an opportunity to see where his game is at now and how he looks in our group. I know he is a very smart player and also very responsible so think he will fit in nicely."

As the IIHF Continental Cup falls outside of Elite League competition, Valdix will not count as an official change used by the Steelers. He will be, however, ineligible to play in EIHL competition unless a change is used or a player is placed on Injured Reserve.

Earlier this season, the Cardiff Devils loaned defenseman Zach Sullivan from the Manchester Storm for part of the Champions Hockey League campaign, As this also fell outside of Elite League competition, Sullivan was not counted as part of the overall maximum of 28 players that any team may register during this season.
