Blaze spoil Clan's homecoming

The Coventry Blaze spoiled the Glasgow Clan's homecoming party with a shootout win in front of 3,259 fans at the Braehead Arena.

Playing their first home game of the season, the Clan gave the near sellout crowd exactly what they wanted towards the end of the opening period - Mathieu Roy putting them ahead on the powerplay at 16:53.

Coventry had other ideas though, and turned the game on its head during period two. Janne Laakkonen equalised at 23:33 on a man advantage, with Johnny Curran putting the visitors ahead at 31:47. The home fans were on their feet late in a period again, however, with new signing Mitch Jones tying things up 15 seconds before the buzzer.

Neither side found a way to break the deadlock in period three, or indeed during overtime, and the game was decided in a shootout. Luke Ferrara and Tim Shoup both scored in round one, but with David Clements and Janne Kivilahti scoring in rounds two and three where Roy and Jamie Crooks missed, Guillaume Gauthier's unsuccessful attempt on the Clan's fourth shot saw the Blaze take the bonus point.
