Clan record tight home win over Flames

Glasgow Clan beat the Guildford Flames for the first time in seven attempts in a lively game on Sunday afternoon.

Clan led after a good opening period at the Braehead Area. Rodney Southam gave them the perfect start when he got on a rebound from Cody Sol's shot for the 1-0 lead at 5:12. Just under 10 minutes later the hosts doubled their advantage with a nice Mitch Jones finish off a Colton Yellow Horn feed as Cla enjoyed a delayed penalty advantage.

However, with the Flames then down a skater the visitors got themselves back into the game - Rob Lachowicz setting up Jamal Watson for the clean-through finish shorthanded after Clan turned the puck over on their own blueline. The goal was the Flames' first in Scotland this season after 135 minutes and 58 seconds.

The only goal of the middle period came on a scrappy play in the Flames end. With the visitors unable to clear the puck broke kindly for Mathieu Roy, and he found Yellow Hor at the far post who patiently slotted past Lindskoug to make it 3-1.

With 12:03 left the Flames got themselves back to within one when Chris Gerrie finished off in close. However, a terrible pass from Jamal Watson at 50:16 put the puck straight on the plate of Nola Laporte to re-establish the home side's two-goal cushion.

Guildford responded almost immediately with Jake Bolton finishing nicely off Watson's set up at 51:51 to make it a one-goal game again. Matt Haywood could have sealed things through 1-on-0 but couldn't beat Lindskoug, who was then pulled as the Flames went for the extra skater. Starrett ensured the Clan took the regulation win with a fine save at the death.
