A four-goal first period helped the Cardiff Devils overturn a 2-4 aggregate deficit and advance to the Premier Sports Challenge Cup Semi-Finals 8-5 overall thanks to a 6-1 win on the night over the Dundee Stars.
Played behind closed doors at Ice arena Wales but live on Premier Sports, the Devils shocked their guests with four goals in a five-minute spell. Brodie Reid slapped home on the powerplay 8:13 into the game, and just 21 seconds later Cole Sanford's shot on net beat Adam Morrison with Jake Coughler screening in front. Coughler continued his excellent form since joining the Devils with a goal just before the 10-minute mark on the powerplay, before a fine individual effort form Josh Waller, faking and then beating Morrison five-hole, put them four up at 11:45.
Dundee started period two much better than they'd ended the first, and after keeping the Devils out for 14 minutes found a way through themselves shorthanded at 34:40 to pull themselves back to within one on aggregate. However, Matt Register's silky hands in close put the Devils back two ahead overall with 56 seconds left in the period.
Stpehen Dixon rounded off the scoring 2:44 into the final period with the Devils' sixth and final goal of the night, ensuring they advanced 8-5 on aggregate.
