Dundee leapfrogged Coventry in the Premier Sports Elite League table and moved into the playoff places thanks to a three-goal blanking of the Blaze.
The opening period ended goalless although the better chances fell to the Blaze - Luke Ferrara firing over from close range the best chance of the period to break the deadlock.
Coventry were guilty of missing a 3-on-0 chance in the period before the first goal of the game finally came. Sebastian Bengtsson finished a scrappy play in which CJ Motte blocked the initial effort from the blueline, but Dillon Lawrence's bat out of the rolled to Bengtssomn to tap in at the far post.
The Stars got the all-important second goal of the game with 8:23 left on the clock through Dillon Lawrence in front on the powerplay, a goal upheld after video review for possible goalie interference.
A late penalty of Markus Kankaanpera allowed the Blaze to go 6-on-4 with Motte pulled, but with 4:20 left on the clock Alexandre Ranger found the empty net to seal the game. Adam Morrison ended with a 31-shot shutout.
