Cardiff Devils avenged their 5-3 defeat to Belfast on Friday night with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Giants at the SSE Arena on Saturday.
in front of a crowd of over 5,000 fans, both sides started at an exciting pace. As they had done 24 hours earier, Belfast took an early lead - Ben Lake robbed Mark Richardson of the puck in his own zone and set up the on-rushing Slater Doggett for a nice wrist shot past Mac Carruth.
Both Carruth and Beskorowany were the main reasons that it stayed a one-goal game through the first 20 minutes, and almost all of the second period as well. That was until the Devils finally found a way past Beskorowany through Stephen Dixon with 28 seconds left in the middle frame.
Period three was tight with both sides knowing what was on the line and certainly not wanting to lose in regulation. The Devils have the better of the late looks, but the scores stayed level through 60 minutes. Richardson was penalised for slashing in overtime giving the Giants an extra man advantage, but they were unable to use it and find the winner.
Eventually, things were decided in the shootout. With two goals each through five rounds, Brodie Reid scored in Round 6 while Doggett could could only find Carruth's pad, and the Devils took an important extra point.
