Glasgow Clan came out three-goal winners in their first home derby game against Dundee Stars this season.
Clan led by a goal after the opening 20 minutes thanks to Mikko Vainonens's goal at 12:41 after he was played in on the off side by Guillaume Gauthier. The home side were grateful to Shane Starrett for an excellent diving save 90 or so seconds before going ahead with the Stars on the powerplay.
After having a chance to equalise on a Tim Shoup minor, the Stars ran into penalty trouble themselves with three calls in a 78 second-spell to go down 5-on-3. Match Jones wristed home from the point as Clan made use of their two-man advantage with 28:08 played. Dundee had some pressure in front of Starrett's net but on the rush Braylon Shmyr broke down the wing and found a tiny gap over Adam Morrison's shoulder to put the hosts three ahead.
Philippe Sanche got Dundee on the board 4:56 into period three, but when Connor Sills scored from the slot at 47:54 the visitors were suddenly within just one goal of tying the scores. Mathieu Roy tipped Mitch Jones' shot in front of Adam Morrison to put the Clan back two ahead and with some breathing space going into the final nine minutes. Stars' coach Omar Pacha called a timeout early, but Guillaume Gauthier's empty netter with 2:15 to go ended the scoring.
