Glasgow Clan continue to look upwards in the Premier Sports Elite League after a 5-2 derby win over Fife Flyers in front of 3,360 fans at the Braehead Arena.
Clan took an early lead which proved to be the only goal of the opening period. Mitch Jones came in at the back post to fire past Shane Owen at 3:26 to break the deadlock, the loose puck coming after a combination of Rodney Southam and Matt Haywood put the puck on the net. Cody Sol and Brandon Magee had coming together at 16:18 which saw them both binned for roughing, while the Flyers had some 90 seconds of a 5-on-3 as the period ticked down that thy were unable to take advantage of.
The home side continued to boss the game in period two and were rewarded with two goals over the 20 minutes. Guillaume Gauthier knocked home a loose puck from Braylon Shmyr's shot which came back off the post to double the lead at 27:38. Five minutes later, on the powerplay, Colton Yellow horn's shot was saved only into the path of Gauthier to tidy up the rebound.
2:40 into period three, Braylon Shmyr went through 1-on-0 and pulled a nice move to beat Owen and put the Clan 4-0 up. Shane Starrett's hopes of a shutout were ended when an Eric Naslund shot deflected off Carson Stadnyk and looped into the next 55 seconds later.
Colton Yellow horn and Matt Carter traded goals in what was a feisty final period, but it was the Clan who took the 5-2 win as they moved back to a .500 record through 36 games.
