Carozza hat trick helps Panthers to road win

A natural hat trick from Massimo Carozza helped the Nottingham Panthers to a road win in Fife on Wednesday night.

The Flyers, sitting last in the standings, took the lead with 14:26 gone when Jacob Benson blasted home from Matt Carter's drop pass. Jeremy Welsh levelled for the Panthers just under four minutes later thanks to a big Jeremy Welsh slapshot after Fife had failed to clear the zone. However, with 1:29 left in the period, Craig Peacock put the Flyers back ahead with a nice finish in front after the initial dump-in had taken a funny bounce off the boards.

Jonas Emmerdahl got past Mark Matheson before sniping home the Flyers' third of the evening 3:15 into period two to give the hosts a two-goal lead. Five minutes later, Carozza opened his account for the night to cut the deficit in half.

Carozza wristed home in space from the slot 4:37 into period three to tie the game, and he was to win it in overtime.

Skating from the circle in his own zone, the Panthers' forward deked one defenseman and slotted calmly past Shane Owen to score his third of the night and win the game just 28 seconds into overtime.
