Dundee Stars beat Cardiff Devils 5-3 on Wednesday night to sit on a four-game winning streak for the first time this season. In their last three games, they have collected all six points on offer against two teams in the top three.
Gabriel Desjardins hit a pair of goals inside the opening 14 minutes to give the Stars an early 2-0 lead. He beat Taran Kozun short side on a 2-on-1 to open the scoring at 5:23, and a little under eight minutes later bundled the puck over the line of a rebound from a Charlie Combs shot to double the lead.
Riley Brand pulled a goal back for the Devils on the powerplay with 1:24 left in the period.
Combs beat Kozun high on the glove side to score what looked to be a crucial third for the home side on the powerplay at 37:27, but Mark Richardson's wrist shot from the point with 19 seconds left in the period ensured the teams would only be separated by a single goal after 40 minutes.
Spencer Dorowicz getting on a rebound from Drydn Dow's shot put the Stars back two ahead 1:59 into period three and gave the hosts some breathing room. Trevor Cox cutting out in front from behind the goal line and jamming the puck past Brython Preece pulled it back to a one-goal game with 8:20 left, however a lovely Philippe Sanche wrist shot from the top of the slot made it 5-3 to the Stars with 3:54 left and effectively ended the game.
