Blaze thrash Clan to move into fifth

Coventry Blaze climbed to fifth in the Premier Sports Elite League standings thanks to an emphatic 8-1 win over playoff rivals Glasgow Clan.

Four first-period goals put the Blaze well in control of this fixture at the Skydome. Janne Kivilahti opened the scoring at 7:32 with a shot that Shane Starrett fumbled and let slip through his glove into the net. Five minutes later, compatriot Janne Laakkonen on the follow up to Johnny Curran who'd pulled an excellent move to get around a defenseman and shoot on Starrett. 

Ryan Penny tipped David Clements' shot into the net at 13:33 to make it 3-0, while Kivilahti then deflected Joey Raats' pass past Starrett at 18:42 to give the hosts a four-goal lead. 

4:18 into period two it was five with Luke Ferrara going high into the net from the slot, while six minutes later Penny profited from Evan Bloodoff turning over the puck and unleashed a cannon that sailed into the net.

Mitch Cook got the Blaze's final goal of the night at 45:54, while the Clan got on the board with 3:39 left as Colton Yellow Horn finished in close from Mitch Jones' feed.
