Tonight: All on the line when top two clash

The league title could be decided this weekend, but the trophy would only be up for grabs on Sunday and only if Belfast win tonight.

That’s the situation facing Sheffield Steelers and the Giants as they go into this weekend’s doubleheader at the Utilita Arena. Over 12,000 tickets have already been sold across two days, but tonight it’s all about the setup.

Sheffield know their route to winning the league: they can only lose one of their final five games if they’re to become champions. Belfast can do it this weekend if they win both games against the Steelers with one being in regulation; but with a split series would also win it next week in the teams’ final meeting. In short, whoever comes out of this weekend on top will be in pole position, but things could drag out another six or so days.

The Steelers have the head-to-head advantage between the teams this season with a 7-1 home win, and then a split series on the road.

Goaltending never stops being key in these matchups, and in Tyler Beskorowany (93.04%) and Rok Stojanovič (92.77%) the teams have two of the top five in the Premier Sports Elite League.
