Throughout the EIHL 2022/23 season teams will have the ability to trial the use of “Power Breaks”. Teams were required to inform EIHL Hockey Operations no later than 17:00 08/09/22 if they intend on utilizing these at the start of the EIHL 2022/23 campaign.
The following teams have opted to trial Power Breaks:
- Belfast, Cardiff, Coventry, Dundee, Glasgow, Manchester, Nottingham
- Power Breaks are mandatory in all games shown live on Premier Sports
One Power Break will be called per period at the first stoppage after the 8:00 mark (12:00 on a clock which counts down) subject to the IIHF Commercial Timeout regulations.
In order to ensure that Power Breaks are regulated and not introduced or removed for coaching/tactical benefit in a particular game, the following regulations are in place:
- If during the season a team chooses to no longer utilize Power Breaks they must inform EIHL Hockey Operations giving a minimum of 72 hours' notice.
- If a team who originally opted not to utilise Power Breaks decides they want to introduce these, they can do so by notifying EIHL Hockey Operations giving a minimum of 72 hours notice before their next game.
- Once a team has chosen to introduce or remove Power Breaks they must continue to do so for a minimum of 28 days.
