Devils beat Mountfield in CHL
Elite League teams unbeaten after first Game Day
After Belfast's win on Thursday, Cardiff Devils ensured a home sweep for Elite League teams on the opened Game Day of the Champions Hockey League 2019/20.
The Devils trailed after a period against Czech side Mountfield HK Radovan Pavlík at 12:47. That was a lead that the visitors held until a key 5-on-3 powerplay for the Devils which brought two goals - Blair Riley got the ball rolling at 31:11, followed by Mike McNamee 53 seconds later to put the Devils ahead.
Cardiff killed off a 5-on-3 against them as the period ran down, but extended their lead at 45:03 as Charles Linglet was given too much space in the offensive zone to shot low into the net. The Devils survived another 5-on-3 as they edged closer to the win, and although Mountfield got a late consolation with two seconds to go it was the Devils' night as they celebrated their second regulation CHL win in their history.
