Ferguson suspended for one game
Flames forward receives suspension
On Saturday night in Coventry, Guildford Flames forward Brett Ferguson made an illegal check to the head on Blaze forward Jack Billings.
As the video shows, Billings is attempting to recover a loose puck and break out of his defensive zone. Ferguson, in an attempt to recover the puck, delivers a hit that cuts across the front of Billing’s core, making his head the main point of contact on a hit where such head contact is avoidable. This is an illegal check to the head.
It is important to note that while there may be some contact with Billings' body, the head is the main point of contact on this hit. Ferguson‘s shoulder hits through Billings' head. If Ferguson wants to deliver this hit legally he must take an angle of approach that hits through Billings' shoulder and core, rather than one that cuts across the front of his body making his head the main point of contact.
To summarise:
- This is an illegal check to the Head
- Ferguson has neither been fined or suspended during the 2022/2023 Viaplay Elite League Season
Effective immediately, Guildford Flames Brett Ferguson is fined and suspended for one game.
