Nottingham Panthers secured their place in the next round of the Challenge Cup automatically thanks to a win in Manchester and claiming second place in Group C.
Knowing that they needed a regulation win to go through, Manchester had pressure in the opening period but only make it count 30 seconds before the break – Dallas Ehrhardt’s shot from the point giving them the lead.
Nottingham turned the game on its head with two Brett Bulmer goals in the second period – the first at 31:17 before another with 1:20 to go in the period put the Panthers 2-1 ahead. A late empty net goal ensured the Panthers got the two points they needed.
The loss does not mean that the Storm are out of the cup completely – but they’ll need to get past Coventry in a one-game ‘Play-In’ to go further.
