Nitra edge out Devils to take Continental Cup title

Cardiff Devils went down 3-2 to HK Nita in their final game of the IIHF Continental Cup, a result that saw the Slovak side clinch the title in Angers.
The Devils had some good chances in period one, but were punished for not taken them as their opponents ran in three goals at the other end. Filip Krivosik's backhand through a screen, Jakub Lacka and Marek Tvrdon put Nitra three up with goals at 14:26, 15:53 and 19:14 to shock the Devils.
Cole Sanford pulled one back with 33:39 on the clock, while Ryan Penny then made it a one-goal game 6:25 into period three. The Devils were given a five-minute powerplay in the closing stages with a major penalty assessed to Reid Duke. but unable to convert they saw the opportunity pass by.
Nitra survived a couple of scary moments in the final minute to stay ahead, but the Devils ran out of time and Nitra took the win and the titile.
