Devils victorious in Manchester

Cardiff Devils ended their two-game losing streak with a hard-fought win in Manchester against the Storm.
In an opening period that took just 29 minutes to complete, it was the Devils that had the lead after 20 minutes of play thanks to Joey Haddad. The Devils forward picked up the puck behind Matt Ginn’s net and beat the Storm goalie with a wrap-around at 14:36.
Mike McNamee was afforded too much time and space as the Devils broke up ice, and he made no mistake in finding the top corner to double the Devils’ advantage at 29:51. The Storm were however back in the game at 36:12 in somewhat bizarre circumstances – Scott Simmonds’ shot from a tight angle snuck in under the crossbar, something that few people in the rink saw except the goal judge, but the goal was confirmed after video review.
Cardiff got themselves an insurance marker late on with a 2-on-1 break where Matt Myers set up Haddad for the Devils’ third with 1:56 to play, before Mark Richardson found the empty net with 26 seconds to go.
