Gendron suspended for Cross-Checking

Giants forward receives suspension

On Sunday night in Guildford, Giants defenceman Miles Gendron was penalised with a Major and Game Misconduct for Cross-Checking Flames forward Matt Alvaro.

As the video shows, Alvaro receives a pass from a teammate and the play is blown down for offside. Gendron, who is backchecking, continues skating towards Alvaro, entering the zone after the play is stopped and pushing Alvaro who responds with a push of his own, with both players continuing into the end zone. Gendron approaches Alvaro, places two hands on his stick, rises up and strikes Alvaro with his stick in the head and neck area. This is Cross- Checking.

Whilst we acknowledge this isn’t a cross check meant to harm or injure his opponent, players are responsible for their stick at all times. This is a careless cross check delivered at a stoppage in play that strikes an opponent at a dangerous height. This is not a case where Gendron raises his stick defensively or reflexively to protect himself; Gendron places two hands on his stick and raises it up and extends his arms in a direct motion towards Alvaro to create this contact. This type of action has a high risk of causing an injury.

To Summarise:

  • Cross Checking
  • No History. Gendron has neither been fined or suspended during the 2023/24  EIHL season

Effective immediately Belfast Giants'  #15 Miles Gendron is fined and suspended for two games.

The Giants were informed about this suspension on Tuesday evening.
