Great Britain international, and former Elite League player, Matthew Myers has announced his retirement from international ice hockey.
One of only three players to have played over 1,000 games in the Elite League, Myers has also been a stalwart of the national team over a lengthy career. He represented Team GB in 19 World Championship tournaments and five Olympic Qualifiers.
Myers made his GB debut at the 2004 IIHF World Championships, and has gone on to not miss a World Championships ever since - a phenomenal feat.
"It has been an honour to play for GB and I have loved every minute of it. The successes we have had always make me smile, the memories make me happy," began the 39-year-old, who is playing in the French second tier this season.
"The team has always been built on a group of guys who revel as underdogs and don't take ourselves too seriously. There are no egos and we are all on the same page.
"I am going to miss that GB atmosphere, the laughs and the jokes. That's what I am going to miss the most, the boys, but 19 years is pretty good going."
