Dowd and Martin head into new season with records in sight

Robert Dowd and Joey Martin will head into the 2024/25 season with some of the league's all-time records firmly in their sights.

When the Steelers begin Elite League action in a fortnight, Dowd will be starting the campaign just seven points shy of Colin Shields' all-time record for the most points in the history of the EIHL. Shields retired in 2019 on 739 points, while Dowd, on 732, is the only active player in the top five. David Clarke, Ashley Tait and Matthew Myers make up the rest of the five highest-scoring playing in the EIHL era.

Joey Martin could become the league's greatest ever non-homegrown player during the course of the new season. The Devils' forward, who will start competitive action in a week, is 11 points off Jeff Legue's all-time record of 596. Breaking that milestone would also put him sixth in the league's all-time scoring charts, and he could become only the sixth player ever to surpass the 600-point mark in the EIHL.
