Ice Hockey UK (IHUK) is pleased to announce that it is currently holding discussions with the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) with regards to a long-term partnership to further develop GB talent.

A working group from each organisation has been set-up and has met on numerous occasions, with discussions centred around a number of opportunities and initiatives that will benefit the current and future generations of athletes who aspire to represent Great Britain and forge a professional playing career.

IHUK Chief Executive, Henry Staelens, said: "This issue has been apparent for a number of years and there isn't a simple solution, but the direction of travel is proving to be really progressive and I am confident that both IHUK and EIHL will agree a strategic way forward in the coming months.

"This won't just be for the next 12 months but, critically, it will span a longer period where the two organisations can make a significant impact for the development of GB talent and the general growth of the game."

EIHL Chairman, Tony Smith, said: "It is in the best interest of the sport and the Elite League that the national team Is successful and that it contains young and exciting British players.

“It is important that the EIHL works with all the governing bodies involved in the junior programmes throughout the UK to create a pathway to the professional game.

"It is equally important that all member clubs of our league encourage this development wherever possible.

“We have been pleased with the discussions held with IHUK to date and hope that these continue in the same positive manner.

"It is only collectively that this pathway can be created and the national side can look forward to a sustained period in the top flight of the world game."

A full and detailed announcement is expected in early 2025.
