Saturday: League points only

It’s league action only on Saturday with four games across the evening in Week 10.

Things start at 6pm in Guildford where the Flames take on Coventry Blaze. Guildford skated away with a six-goal, shutout win the last time the teams met at the Spectrum in the Cup, while the Blaze took the reverse fixture by a single goal. In the early-season running, this game puts the teams in second and third up against each other!

From 7pm, Manchester Storm host Belfast Giants as the visitors begin a two-day road trip in the north of England. Since winning two in a row in the middle of last month, Storm have gone on to take victory in just one of their five subsequent fixtures – although none of their losses have been by more than two goals. Belfast head into the Storm Shelter on a five-game win streak, a run that’s seen them score 17 goals and concede just 11 goals and post two shutouts. The Giants took a 7-3 win in Altrincham in September.

Old rivals Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers meet at what is expected to by a sold-out Motorpoint Arena at 7pm for their first league meeting of the season. A four-point weekend last time out ended the Panthers’ three-game winless run, while defeat in Cardiff saw the Steelers’ seven-game unbeaten streak snapped. As has been widely reported, the Panthers’ recent record against the Steelers is not good, with their last home win over Aaron Fox’s team coming on 25 September 2022. DEL referee Andris Ansons will be skating this game on his three-game tour in the EIHL this weekend.

Saturday’s action ends in Fife where the Flyers take on Scottish rivals Glasgow Clan at 7:15pm. After nine league fixtures each, the teams find themselves ninth and tenth respectively, and out of form. Fife are on a 10-game losing run with no win since 5 October, although last Sunday’s point against Nottingham did move them off the foot of the table. Clan have lost three straight and posted just one win in eight – that coming in the Cup against the Flyers last month. Both teams took a win each in the two cup fixtures in Kirkcaldy earlier this season.
