Sheffield Steelers ended Week 11 with a victory, their first of the week, with a 4-1 win over Fife Flyers in Kirkcaldy.
Mark Simpson scored a hat trick for Aaron Fox's team. "I thought we came out slow and Fife had a great start," said the Steelers forward. "I think we took over in the second and third and our depth showed, we were able to shut things down and then get some insurance goals in the end."
After a week that saw them defeated in the CHL to Berlin, and in the Challenge Cup by Coventry, Mark Simpson put the visitors ahead with 2:47 played.
Lucas Chiodo, Fife's OT hero in Belfast, got the hosts level just shy of the five-minute mark.
Cole Shudra skated from his own zone to fire past Shane Owen and put the Steelers back ahead 3:15 into period two, and that's where the score stayed until the closing stages in a game of few penalties.
With 1:52 left, Simpson scored his second of the night to give the Steelers a two-goal cushion before completing his hat trick on the empty net with 65 seconds remaining.
"Props to the guys for finding me tonight!" added Simpson. "Good things happen when you go to the net but I had some excellent set-ups.
"We have a big test coming in Berlin and are looking forward to trying to push back there on Wednesday."
